Astrology Consciousness Expanding

There have been three astrology books I have read cover to cover over the years and Maurice's Astrology and the Evolution of Consciousness is one of them. I had a blissful uninterrupted seven hours to read the book in an airport and on a flight. I couldn't put it down! This is the book that will finally replace Steven Forrest's "Inner Sky" for my beginning students of astrology as a main textbook for orientation to the elements, modes, signs, houses and luminaries. The description of the elements, modes, hemispheres and quadrants in Chapter Two gives a very clear and easy-to-remember orientation to the reading of the chart. Students will gain significant insight from the twelve archetypes in Chapter 3 and I agree with Maurice that not immediately teaching the houses, but introducing their concept through the archetypes is an effective way to get students started.
I like the brief description of Madonna's chart in Chapter 4. Without going into too much detail, Maurice gives an orientation to a chart in terms of the hemispheres and modes that will be useful to beginners. Although this book is intended for beginners, "old dogs" can learn new tricks as well-- such as the fact that Madonna's having most of her planets in the eastern hemisphere-- but in western hemisphere signs-- gives her the need to deal with "existential forces larger than herself...but having a definite need for creating her destiny."
The descriptions of mother figures in Chapter 5 on The Moon in Signs and Houses is a wealth of information for advanced astrologers as well as beginners. Similarly, Chapter 6 on The Sun in Signs and Houses, offers very clear insight into fathering patterns that emerge with each sun sign and house. I read descriptions of my own parents in chapters 5 and 6 that fit to a tee. I think students will literally devour these two detailed chapters as they explore their moon and sun by sign and house. These concise yet very complete descriptions replace descriptions by previous authors beautifully.
Finally, the jackpot arrives at the end of the book. Maurice's chapter 8 on the Evolutionary Levels of Consciousness answers all of the questions I would have liked to have asked Jeffrey Wolf Green. Whereas Jeffrey's Pluto books I and II give generalized descriptions of the three basic levels of evolution, Maurice gives vivid and clearly rendered examples from the lives of actual clients. Beginners will really understand the subtle difference between a first and second stage spiritual consciousness because of the clear two and three page descriptions that describe not only the advances and pitfalls example clients experience in each stage, but the ways in which they could work around them. I found this part of the book to be fascinating. The descriptions of each stage are clear and very detailed. Whereas I have been somewhat uncertain of client consciousness levels at times, I can now feel certain that through using these descriptions and asking certain key questions surrounding factors described by Maurice, I will know which level to address.
Editing on this text by LeAnn Plank compliments the author's language perfectly. Maurice has an amazing command of English and LeAnn has not changed his colorful and charming syntax. Her expert streamlining makes the book a pleasure to read. Congratulations Maurice on writing a complete and very soulful book which is certain to become a classic in our field.

Much more then another Astrology book

This book is indeed for beginners but yet brings this important basic knowledge in a clear, fluent and deep way that is important to read also for those who want to refine their practice. in all the years I've been studying Astrology I couldn't find a book that covers the 12 archetypes in such depth and still keep it simple - the perfect combination.
this book is much more then another Astrology book - it is definitely the book that will take you personally to the next level in your quest to understand Astrology and life as well as presenting Astrology for what it really is.

Even though I have been learning astrology for over 10 years, until now I have never been able to find a good basic astrology book, especially in the field of evolutionary astrology. Astrology and the Evolution of Consciousness has surpassed my expectations! It has all the basics about the planets, signs and houses, and much more. The chapters about the moon signs and sun signs are full of valuable and correct information. I'm sure I will be referring to these sections quite a bit; even though I have a lot of experience in astrology, Maurice Fernandez's descriptions are fresh, deep, and wise. I was very happy to see that there are plenty of examples as well.
One of the best chapters is about the evolutionary levels; this is the first book that I know of that gives such in-depth explanations of this crucial subject. The examples of the different levels are very well thought out and provide you with a way to grasp this sometimes difficult subject.
I heartily recommend this book to astrologers on any level, and to people who want to start learning about astrology. It gives you in-depth knowledge about all the basics, and is simply a treasure!
