This book is worth every penny I paid! Once you get past the "how-to" of tablet weaving (and there are plenty of books and websites to teach you that) you'll find yourself wanting more. This book is packed with full color patterns for you to use. It will also help you go further in your understanding of how the turns affect the colors and patterns in your bands and you can make your own variations on his patterns. Not only is this book a valuable resource, you can accompany it with John's website and awesome program so you can design your own bands. [...] This is a must have book for tablet weavers.

This book is easy to follow. Was hoping that it would have some info about how to warp the loom but did not and referred readers to other books. Have made several card projects already and was able to be successful the first time.

Great Pattern Book for a Beginning Weaver

To begin with, I haven't actually bought this book but have perused it a few times at our local yarn shop with my fellow narrow band weaving friends. Our conclusion was unanimous. The patterns found within aren't particularly spectacular or eye-catching, but it's difficult to do that with your basic equal-number-of-turns-forward-and-back band. I was hoping to find a few threaded-in patterns with multiple packs, but was sadly disappointed in that aspect.

For a beginner, though, who has no interest in designing his or her own patterns (which is the answer to the question in the previous author's review 'what do you do when you get past the patterns provided in the teaching book?'... well, that or 'google more patterns online') this is a perfect resource. There are plenty of patterns in here that will help you learn the structure of the weaving so that you can either move on to more complex tablet weaving techniques or begin to draft your own patterns.

Talking about designing patterns, I would have liked to have seen more of a section dedicated to teaching beginners to design their own threaded in patterns. A discussion of how, rules of thumb, color theory, and the mechanics of using multiple packs with a threaded in pattern would be a lovely addition to this book, should it get a second printing.

In general, as a tablet-weaver of a decade, it wasn't worth my $40, for a beginner who is hungrily searching for more projects, it's a perfect buy.

Advice for a guy from a guy on how to impress a lady

Ok, guys. This book is full of basic advice that will make you look like a champ instead of a chump. For example, buying candy for your lady? Do not, repeat, do NOT run into the convenience store while gassing up your ride and pick up one of those mass-market produced boxes of chokkies. "Gas? Done. Gift, done. Time expended, 4 minutes! Impressing your date? Priceless!" Uh, no, that is not happening. Take heed, young swain, you must cruise on over to the department store and procure a box of top-shelf confections, you know the kind. Get a gold-foil box that conceals a pitifully few dainty sweets nestled in flocked plastic, like jewels in a velvet-lined coffer. Despite the inconvenience and a purchase that seems outrageously expensive, you will find that your lady will react in quite a different manner than to the drugstore sampler. As a member of the female gender, I personally aver this to be absolutely true.

There is also advice for what to bring for a weekend away; a raspberry scented candle, and a CD. But not one of those CD's you find in a certain class of hotel, instead, author Knight suggests you bring Sade.

There is also advice on what to cook for a intimate dinner at home (paella, or chicken with wild rice, and for heaven's sake, know something about wine) but I don't think this is a good idea. If your typical night's cooking will be warming up Hot Pockets with a side of leftover takeout from lunch, it's best to make this clear at the outset, and also find a woman who likes to show off her culinary skills as a way of showing you she cares. Much more honest. You'll save on legal fees, too.

There is lots of advice on the touchy side of the relationship, as in sex but little on the feely side, and by "feely" I don't mean sex, I mean how to avoid the boggy areas of argument and misunderstanding that accumulate during courtship, are ignored and then come up as a huge issues that each side felt "would change" after you've hatched a kid and are now wondering if you should get married. This sequence seems completely out of order to me, but it is a popular chain of events these days.

Sad to say, her annoying habit of texting her ex-boyfriends while out with you isn't going to stop, and you have no intention of checking with her in by cell phone every 15 minutes or quitting those five-day hunting outing twice a year. No, it's best to get these issues on the table early and to learn how to judge character before you choose a more permanent mate, let alone create a couple of helpless new lifeforms who will be drastically affected by your eventual breakup and creation of a new and better family.

There is no advice on picking a suitable mate and treating your chosen one with true kindness. So this is really just a "how to coax a lady" book and getting past second base. For success in making dating the art of courting, judging and choosing your right woman, you'll have to find a deeper source. I suggest this book for you if you are going to get serious.

I found your review to be very helpful. I've been trying to fine sonething a little more suitable for the feely part that us women long for. Times have changed a lot for when I was younger and there are alot of things that are missing when it comes to communicating with your partner or even knowing the right things to do or say to your partner.
I have reciently been keeping up with an author named Donell Jackson and he released a book that not only breaks down the things that count but also runs over things about communation, listen and even gestures. I found this book to be very useful for men as well as women. So Joanna if you are still looking for a book on the more feely side than I whould suggest you look up Donell Jackson.

About the Author
Nancy Burson's work is shown in museums and galleries worldwide. She is best known for her pioneering work in morphing technology, enabling law enforcement officials to locate missing children and adults. As a photographer, writer, inventor, and healer, Burson lectures and teaches worldwide, including a visiting professorship at Harvard and an adjunct position at NYU. Inspirational and enlightening and entertaining

Yes, be sure you are interested in the topics she discusses before you buy her book: crop circles, spiritual transformation, avatars, amazing healings, Indigo children (hers), helping the world to heal, opening to other worlds/beings/dimensions which happen to be right here on Earth and - most importantly - a journey to your own healing and opening to love. If those things interest you -then this is your book.

I went to hear her speak before reading the book and found her absolutely credible, fascinating, loving and committed to her mission of making the unseen seen and helping people to lose their fear of these beings. Her integrity is unassailable; her dedication complete. She is a kind of ambassador for the beings we coexist with, but haven't seen in most cases. She/they encourage us to drop our fear. They are here to love us and that is her ultimate message. All who heard her speak that night saw incredible, unforgettable things.

She also explores the transformative impact of crop circles and talks about her personal experiences with them and the beings involved with them. She is extraordinarily brave and courageous to reveal all that she talks about in this book. She works with what she calls EC's - or Extra Celestials (I love that expression!) and she has compelling proof of their existence.

I loved this book and highly recommend it. I savored it and didn't want it to end. It is truly groundbreaking and I recommend it to all my friends open to this kind of thing. She is a worldly, successful person who has taught at Harvard and NYU. I have read so very many spiritual books and this is truly an exceptional one. Yes, it helps to have an open mind - but she will help to open it more. This book has the potential to bring amazing things into your life. If you're ready for wonder and love in your life - definitely give this book a shot! At the very least her personal story is fascinating and enjoyable. Thank you, Nancy, for writing this book.

Keith Klein CN, CCN is a world renowed nutritionist who has designed programs for TV personalities, Olympic Athletes, NFL football players, bodybuilders, models and people just like you. Keith is the former dietetic director at the Institute of Specialized Medicine in Houston, Texas. He then spent five years treating patients with eating disorders, heart disease and obesity along side Dr. Simms. Through his work with psychiatrists, Keith developed his groundbreaking research "The Psychology of Eating Management." He is the author of hundreds of articles and is a consumer activist that petitions the FDA, FTC and USDA in response to deceptive claims by food manufacturers. Keith owns The Institute of Eating Management & Relapse Prevention Center in Houston where he has practiced for the last 18 years. Last Nutrition Guide you will need, ever!

I can't imagine what you might have been wanting from a diet/nutrition guide for you to give this book a 1 Star review. Then I went to your other reviews and noticed that you didn't give to many products of any kind a high ranking. My confusion was cleared up when I noticed that you gave "Momento" 1 Star also, while you gave "Battlefield Earth" 5 Golden Stars!!!

If you don't like gimmicks, quick fixes or false information on how to get fit then this will be the last nutrition book you will ever buy.

I found this book over 8 years ago and I can tell you that before then I was lost on how to eat healthy. I have since followed Keith Klein's philosophies and I can tell you that they work, plain and simple.

This book gives you straight forward time tested real answers on how to eat. It is really four books in one. It is a no nonsense down to the bone guide to how to feed your body, not starve your body. It is also a recipe book. In the back of this book you get many many recipes on how to cook whole, healthy, good tasting and well balanced meals that will keep you on track so that you don't have to eat chicken breast, broccoli and rice every single meal. You will also learn how to train properly for getting into shape. Lastly this book is a guide to dieting for a contest whether it be a fitness show or bodybuilding contest.

This book goes into all the detail you need to know about what is protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and fats and how your body assimilates them or can or can't use them. It gives you templates in the back of the book on how many calories you should be eating for your given weight and the formula to figuring out your daily caloric intake.

Keith Klein has dedicated his life to nutrition in a real world type of way. I listen to his radio show that is based on all of his beliefs and I would love to see him debate many of the so called nutritional experts that you see on your national morning shows. I have never heard him not have a well educated answer for any question posed to him on his radio show. His knowledge is based in fact and not fiction. Keith is continually challenging the FDA on it's food labeling laws which basically allows for food companies to lie to us and continue to sell you and me unhealthy, high fat and low nutrition foods.

Keith Klein also knows more than anyone I've ever heard speak about the supplements that we should stay away from. His education on this comes from cold hard research and not some holistic brain washing. I've never heard him not know something about whatever supplement product that he might be posed a question about. If he doesn't know then you can give him a laundry list of ingredients in the product and then he can give you the research of those individual ingredients to come to a well educated guess as to whether or not said supplement would work.

If you believe in the old saying of "Let's get down to brass tacks", then this book is for you.

Why believe me? After having our first child my wife went from 19% body fat to 11% body fat in 12 weeks by following the instructions of this book.

No matter if you are trying to lose weight, bulk up, or both this is the perfect book for you. There is a lot of useful information that will help you no matter your goals. Amazing results, especially for a 12-week program

One of my girlfriends has this book, and I saw her after she had completed his advice... her arms were chiseled, her abs were lean & "six-pack", and her legs were cellulite-free and seamless. She is the mother of 3 kids (1 + twins), and she has worked out her entire life, but has never achieved these types of results. She mentioned that she has worked out hard in the past (in preparation for fitness competitions) but has only been able to drop her body fat % by 1%. After 12 weeks of this program, along with continuing to workout (of course), she dropped another 11% body fat.

I have not yet tried this book, but I am definitely interested in seeing how I look afterwards! I will come back on here after reading and completing the program, and let you know how it worked for me... but after seeing my friend's results, I have no doubt that it will be great.

She did mention that the diet is pretty boring (but this should come as no surprise... in order to "get lean", you can't go out and eat fatty foods or load up on simple sugars or carbs... common sense). But she said the book is very detailed & well-written on what you should eat, how, and what quantity. We can do anything if we put our minds to it, right? Especially with great instructions such as what is in this book.

Awesome book for college students...or anyone else

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Brown Like Coffee. From cover to cover, it radiates living passionately for Jesus. Whether you are a senior in high school considering college, a college student thinking about what you want to do with your life, or a pastor (or youth pastor) looking for some good books for your students, this book is for you.

Steve Shadrach starts out challenging students to know why they are going to college. Though it is pushed in our society, is it necessary? Is it the direction that God really wants you to go? Understand, Steve isn't trying to talk students out of going to college, but to know why they are going.

In the chapters that follow, Steve encourages students to grow deep in Christ. Don't be a normal Christian. Stand out, encourage other believers, be on fire and passionate for Christ. Be willing to go wherever, do whatever God calls you to. Be ready to give your testimony, preach about Jesus, and talk to others about Christ at any moment.

Brown Like Coffee will push you to get outside of your comfort zone and examine yourself and your relationship with Christ. At the end of each chapter, there is a question to help you examine your spiritual walk. I would encourage everyone who reads the book to take the time to answer these questions.

I highly recommend this book - it will challenge you to grow spiritually!

Entertaining, Challenging, & Biblical

Brown Like Coffee by Steve Shadrach is an excellent book. The book is aimed "for students who think outside the box" an dfocused on challenging students to live a life radically set apart for Jesus Christ. The book as a whole accomplishes this task successfully.

Steve succeeds to make a the book compelling to his audience of college students by using humor througout the book, making it attractice and readable for many college students who spend enough time reading "boring textbooks" for homework. In that aspect alone, he deserves a high rating!

However, Steve's use of humor does not diminish the deep content discussed within the book. The book contains 24 relatively short chapters, many of which discuss different topics-- from stories about how to date well to how to live a radical life of mission for Jesus Christ. The diverse number of topics addressed in the book are, in my opinion, a benefit of this book. The reader is not limited to one subject but rather is challenged to go deeper in his/her faith in a variety of different subject areas.

I gave this book 4 stars only because I think it has a rather limited audience. Although the topics are presented well, the humor and style of the book (in my mind) does limit this book to college students (or the college student at heart?). It has a completely different tone than a serious, deeply theological book-- and although that is a beautiful thing(!), I also think that it's style might limit it slightly for certain students.

Overall, I am confident that this book will help students yearn for a deeper relationship with Jesus. It challenges students to get off the couch and start living! At the end of the each chapter, Steve also includes "The Box", a section where he poses a challenging question to the reader and where the reader is asked to write down his/her response. Personally, I think it would be extremely beneficial for a mentor or leader to go through this book with a student, if not only to talk through those challenging questions at the end of each chapter and help the student to apply what he/she has learned!

Blue like Jazz retort

Well, the book contains a lot of really solid stuff. I want to put that out there straight away. The thing is, i dont know that its any different or better that any other book that "teaches" us how to have radical faith. The title is obviously a play on Blue Like Jazz. Something i find wholly uncreative, unless the author wishes a writing career equvalent to Wierd Al. The website for the book states that it isnt a spoof and the title is totally random. Uh huh. A later blog states that in a way the author feels is is a response because he felt too many sentences started with "I", thus making BLJ too self centered. Im not sure if the the fact that BLJ was really a memoir, the authors personal journey thru faith, ever sunk in. That the author of this book did seem to get that, probably tainted the whole book for me.

Perfect book for women who are stuck in a rut

I love many things about this book:

1. I feel like it speaks directly to me - I'm a woman in her mid-30s whose biggest fear in life is living a Groundhog Day-like existence. This book reminded me that opportunities to tap into my passion are everywhere, all the time - it's about being present and feeding myself more of what I love and less of what I don't.

2. It has prompted me to get off my booty and start taking small (practical and do-able) steps to take a giant lunge out of a big rut I've been in for the past year. The ripple effect across my life and inside of me (especially in my self-confidence) has been amazing.

3. The author has a refreshingly down-to-earth voice - I feel like she's one of my girlfriends - funny, candid, smart, insightful.

4. It's an easy read - you pick it up and don't want to put it down. And you can readily digest the information and start acting on it immediately, which is the critical part. What's the point of reading a book about self-empowerment if you're not inspired to do something now for yourself?

Very Interesting Read

I finally decided to break down and purchase this book due to Bad Boys still not hiring any of the assistances from his reality show, "I want to work for Diddy." I even read just recently that the chic from the second show is now without job and broke, so that she could appear on the show. It looks like he is making all this money from the reality shows but not actually hiring them in the end. Mic Barber had his own company before the show, so the exposure really worked in his favor. Therefore, I decided to get this book and really see the man behind the myth.

Most things I already knew or suspected about Diddy so I am not surprised. The industry overall is just a snake and a very tough business regardless with what record company you sign with and Bad Boy is no exception. The key is to not be naïve and to have your own lawyers not their lawyer or a recommended lawyer read all of your contracts. I also do know that most record companies will charge and deduct whatever time you spend in studio, video, or any other associated costs, so that is a normal thing in the industry. If there is something such as creativity or other rights you want in the contract that you and your lawyer do not agree with, well you do not sign with the company. I think Mr. Curry was very green to the industry and thought quick money would come, which it does not. I wish the best for him and maybe he should try self-promoting his music as many artists are doing today. That is then when the record company will come looking for you and you can set your own terms.

Looking at Derek Clark these days, one might never guess that he survived flagrant abuse and neglect as a kid and that at age 5, he was the only one of his siblings to be sent to an orphanage by a mother who claimed he was angry, wild and out of control. At 37, the Tracy businessman has come a long way from his chaotic childhood, when seven foster care families rejected him, also citing his anger as reason to turn him away. Today, he has a healthy marriage, three sons and a career as a local mortgage broker. I made it, he mused. Adversity makes the strong stronger and the weak weaker. I wasn t always strong. A difficult early life made me the man I am today. I struggled mentally and physically. There were traumatic experiences throughout my youth, and I had to learn to live with them. I was given up by my own mom at an early age. Inexplicably, she kept my brother and sister. I was so scared and alone, and these feelings persisted through my teenage years. I wasn t a depressed kid who was weak and picked on. I actually went the opposite and was filled with aggression and anger. I was hurt deeply when my mother abandoned me to the foster care system. If I couldn t trust my own mother, how could I trust anyone else? It brings tears to my eyes even now remembering the child I was, unable to trust another living person. OT: As a former foster kid and a child who was abused, what are some lessons you ve learned through your struggles that you share with others who experience similar hardships? Clark: Don t play the victim role and have a pity party. Do something with your life. I relied on hope all my life, and hope has given me the pathway to having a family, writing music and eventually writing this book. Hope gives you energy. Dreams are for both young and old alike. Age doesn t matter. What matters is the youthfulness of your heart and mind. Everything you want in life is within your reach, but you have to empower yourself to reach out and grab it. There is no comfort in being comfortable. Comfort comes from the strength earned from growing through discomfort. Comfort comes by gaining strength from adversity. Comfort is self-confidence. The difference between I Will Never Give Up and Goodnight Soldier is that it deals with a topic that we all relate to: being a child. Lots and lots of children have suffered severe emotional damage. I hope that my life experiences will shed light on the need to love children unconditionally and never give up on them. Sometimes we as a society become so focused on saving the trees, the whales and stray cats that we forget about the suffering and neglect of the innocent children. --Tracy Press

About the Author
At 37 years-old, Derek stands 6 foot, 5 inches and has a voice resonating with a singular passion due to a life of coping with adversity and overcoming hardship. Stemming from his childhood experience of parental abandonment, and his troubled youth navigating the pitfalls of the foster care system, his years have been colored by extremes of humility, humiliation, aggression, emotional distress and overwhelming anxiety. At five years old his mother and stepfather turned him over to the county social services, and he has never known his real father. As a foster child, he was disturbed and erratic. Having suffered child abuse, he was prone to severe distress and crippling depression. He has been labeled and misdiagnosed in almost every psychological evaluation in existence, by psychiatrists who might better have sympathized with him. And yet, the dire circumstances of his life have never been obstacles to him succeeding at those endeavors which he has aspired to. Being a child afflicted with numerous emotional, language and mental disturbances, foster care authorities considered placing him in a psychiatric institution unless a suitable home was found, with adults able to cope with his special needs. He has defied the artificial limitations imposed upon him by the denigrating diagnoses that parents, adults, doctors, psychologists, speech therapists, and social workers used to mislabel him. It is with deep, unwavering gratitude for the remarkable dedication and love given him by his last foster parents that he can today serve as a proud example for his own children. Derek knows firsthand the trials of a hard-knock life, and the absence of solid foundations upon which to build a happy, productive life. Although he barely graduated high school with a 1.83 G.P.A, and lasted only a few semesters of night class at a local community college, his lack of educational credentials didn t stop him from going places. He firmly believes that never giving up and trusting in yourself are the keys to success. At the age of 25, he became an independent contractor, and soon began making a six-figure annual income. With his tenacious personality and love for proactive action, he later became owner and operator of a multi-million dollar corporation. He doesn t believe a college degree guarantees you either success or happiness. Success, he feels, begins within oneself, in the mind and heart, and is earned by the courage to take proactive action. Not only does he caution against being boxed in, but he considers it equally dangerous to even acknowledge the existence of a box. This healthful, positive perspective has played a great part in the realization of his many ambitions. Derek is an inspiring motivational speaker, who unleashes his creative and fun-loving personality in a never-ending effort to ignite passion in others and instill the courage to take action. His maxim is to make no excuses and become what you want to become. Attend one of his events, and not only will you be inspired by the words he speaks, but the music he both writes and performs. It is a concert meant to embolden, enliven, and invigorate. As a singer/songwriter, Derek has performed his music live for thousands of people. He has been featured in numerous newspaper articles, appeared on ABC and CBS, and been a guest on various radio programs. With the unexpected success of his song Goodnight Soldier, he has been blessed with the opportunity to perform live for audiences of active-duty military personnel and retired veterans, country-music star Tracy Lawrence, and three-time Tony Award and Golden Globe winner Carol Channing. He has met with the president of Harley Davidson. He has also enjoyed performing for and meeting President Bush.

The Author Never Gave Up! - A GREAT TRUE LIFE STORY!

"I Will Never Give Up" is an autobiographical book by Derek W. Clark that more than lived up to this reviewer's expectations. I had expected an interesting memoir about a man I know to be a great singer and songwriter but it delivers more than just an astonishing account of the author's life. He also shares the lessons and insights that his life experiences have taught him. This book is truly inspiring on several levels.

The author could have turned his book into a hard-core tale of abuse and added the normal hurtful mutterings of blame by another victim of child abuse. However, he chooses to take the reader on a more inspirational journey. He shares some of positive attributes learned from his younger years of survival in a sensitive look back at a brutal past.

The emotional energy of this book is amazing stuff. It will cause the reader to experience great emotional lows and highs as we follow the neglect and abuse of a young man and his eventual rise above the past traumas to a place of true forgiveness. The book cannot help but touch some part of you in the process.

The book's power comes into focus as you see the author beginning to fight back for control of his life. He questions the very basic concepts of life itself including the role of the church, parents, and even God. The author does not force his personal life views on you and he doesn't worry about being politically correct either with the views expressed. The book comes across as an honest and authentic attempt to share one man's life experiences and why he is who he is today.

If you have ever been or know of someone who was a foster child this might be a great gift to give him or her. They might find a good role model for their own lives. This book will give them hope for their own journey.

The American Authors Association (AAA) gives this book its highest book rating of FIVE STARS! This book also gets my personal endorsement!

I met this author at a conference; such inspiration. He was awesome to hear and couldn't wait to get back to my room to order his book. His book was every bit as good as he was in person.

A Must-Read for the World, for the Sake of Children Everywhere

Derek Clark's authenticity, integrity and sheer fortitude shine through every paragraph of every page of his writing. Having had the honor of hearing him speak, along with reading this book, I'm in awe of the author's resiliency and courage. Clark's story is packed with compassionate and inspiring guidance, especially for the population that has survived abuse and the foster care system. I most appreciate Clark's genuine humility in addressing the topic of a relationship with God (i.e., his challenges in this regard) and his feelings about those professing to be good Christians but whose actions reveal otherwise. Moreover, I deeply appreciate Clark's blatantly clear message: child abuse is ALWAYS COMPLETELY the abuser's fault. Children NEVER deserve to be abused. Thank you, Derek, for spreading this message with heart, song, eloquence and a smile.

As a Social Worker, Clark tops my list as a helpful resource for my clients, myself, and anybody who's suffered traumas --which is everybody.
