Jay Howard Speaks the Truth!!!

I have read this book and know Jay Howard as an acquaintance. I am NOT a "born again Christian" or anything close to it, so I have no dog in this fight per se, but Jay is a honest man with rock-solid integrity. He provides evidence for everything he argues - nearly half the book is an appendix full of documents supporting his book's claims! I don't tell people what to believe, but strongly suggest that, if you do care about this situation or this ministry in particular, you buy the book, read it, and ask the same hard questions Jay Howard does. What happened here seems to have been a real shame and perhaps if enough people get informed and involved, it might be reversed. Maybe we all deserve some honest answers from Hank Hanegraaff!

A well documented and brave book.

I have read Mr. Howard's book and am impressed by how thorough his research is, along with the wealth of documentation he uses to support his claims of impropriety by Mr. Hank Hanegraaff. I must admit, I am quite saddened by the negative attacks by a minority, claiming that this book is the devil's work. Doesn't Matthew 18:15 say "If your brother sins against you,go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. 16But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.' 17If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
The documentation in this book makes it clear that many people did just that. They attempted to speak to Mr. Hanegraaff about his various business and financial indiscretions. They formed a group to try and rectify what they saw as improper behavior and activities. All to no avail. I applaud Mr. Howard for writing and publishing this book. Though it is a bitter pill to swallow, he is definitely doing the Christian thing by "bringing it to the church". It is clear, however, that Mr. Hanegraaff is not repentant in any way. He certainly appears to be a Christian in title only, certainly not in any of his actions. Thank you Mr. Howard for writing about what so many are afraid to even fathom.

A Necessary Book

I followed Dr. Martin's Bible Answerman Program for years. I also devoured Martin's books. His organization, the Christian Research Institute, had an excellent reputation.
But that was then. Dr. Martin died in 1989.
I had doubts about Hank Hanegraaff from the beginning simply because I thought it strange that Dr. Martin had never mentioned his "hand-chosen replacement" on the program or in any of his writings, although he regularly mentioned some up-and-coming apologists (Craig Hawkins, Rob Bowman, Paul Cardin, etc.)
Soon I noticed names of people I had come to trust missing from CRI materials, and the quality of the Bible Answerman program was noticeably decreasing. The featured Christian apologists waned, and the quality of the material likewise waned.
The focus of the Bible Answerman Program was no longer on defending the faith; rather, the focus was on Hank Hanegraaff.
"Bible Answerman" and "Hank Hanegraaff" didn't seem to be a match!
It finally came to the point that, whenever I heard Hanegraaff's voice on the program, I turned it off. It wasn't too long before I referred to the CRI program as the "Platitude Program" and stopped listening entirely. While the "CRI Journal" continues to interview and feature several reputable Christian apologists (e.g., Bill McKeever, Sandra Tanner, etc.), it has likewise lost its sterling reputation. I stopped subscribing to the Journal about a year ago.
Nothing I have read in the Jay Howard's book shocks me because I expected it, having heard the persistent rumors over the years. And I want to say that I appreciate Jay's tone. There is nothing of mocking (as I might have done). Jay presented the material just as it reads: a very sad account of what actually happened.
I have only one major criticism: The font size in the documentation is difficult to read without magnification.
This is a book that needed to be written, and I appreciate Jay for taking on a very depressing task.
