After a stint in United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, and a thirty-five years career working for several Fortune 500 Corporations Cliff is now retired and is free to pursue his interests as a historian and writer. Cliff hold a bachelor of science degree in Business and is the author of several book and published works, including Old West Tales - Good Men, Bad Men, Lawmen, Dead Right - The Lincoln County War, Guns of the Lincoln County War , A Days Ride From Here, and his most recent work John Simpson Chisum - The Cattle King of The Pecos Revisited. Cliff is recognized as an accomplished historian and researcher on the American West. He is a member of Western Writers of America, Inc. and the Wild West History Association. When not deeply involved in writing, Cliff volunteers some of his time doing research for the Peace Officers Memorial Foundation of Texas and is a member and volunteer at the Museum of Western Art in Kerrville, Texas. Cliff and his wife Ellen live in the Hill Country of Texas, near Mountain Home.

Michaela Renee is a psychotherapist and freelance news journalist, who writes for the oldest newspaper in California- the Georgetown Gazette & Mountain Democrat. Michaela Renee Johnsom has done an outstanding job bringing sarcastic humor into this book. Think in the vein of Jen Lancaster but with only 10% of the narcissism.

Alex Swanson is like so many of us, an average girl walking around in a world where every girl with huge breasts or a Kardashian bum stick out and gather crowds- her life is an honest voice that will immediately draw you in from the moment she explains why she needs a female roommate who isn't better looking than she is. Kelly says what we are all thinking.

I love how this book also explores in a way what has happened to our modern radio stations, it's the first time I've really seen it talked about in this genre .. what it's like for the staff when a station completely changes it's format and outlook (usually because Clear Channel gobbled them up).

The family in this book will do no less than make you grin, laugh and cry- as you're calling your grandparents to tell them you love them. The relationships in this book are so authentic that you will never feel like it's not a story happening to one of your best friends.

It's an important lesson to be learned today, to listen, to ask stories and to learn lessons in life from the people who have lived more than we have.

You won't be sorry, read it, pass it around!

This is the story all about how,
Alexandria got flipped, turned, upside down,
I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there,
Tell you how she became the best dating expert on the air!

....she got the advice from her grandparents. That's how. But because of this new fame, and giving out all this advice, she has to examine her own past, and she ends up being helped along the way.

This book is very entertaining. It is sarcastic and snarky, but without being absolutely insufferable. The sarcasm is endearing and fun, instead of being the worst. I think it must be very difficult to write someone that is sarcastic, and have it come across correctly, since, I haven't seen it very often.

I think the characters are really well done, especially the grandmother, Moe. She reminds me of some of the people in my own family, which is very entertaining for me to read and say "Oh, that's just like Kxtlkasd (names changed to conceal identity)." Most of the characters are really relatable.

I highly recommend it.

Insanely Funny, Heartwarming, and Touching

Me & Moe by Michaela Renee Johnson is a self published novel released in 2013. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Alex was orphaned as child when her parents were killed in a car accident. Her grandparents raised her in San Francisco. Grandma "Moe" and Grandpa are still spry and involved in Alex's life since Alex still lives at home.
Alex is employed by a local radio station. This is a just a stepping stone for what Alex hopes will be a long serious journalism career. She wants to be in war zones and doing the really gritty stuff. But, fate has other plans. The radio station merges with a larger one based in New York and now play top forty music.
To stir up publicity, Alex has to change time slots and sign up with a dating service. She must go out on dates and then tell about them the next day on the air.
For Alex, a woman that has never dated much and didn't really mind being single, this is mortifying. But, when she is promised an opportunity in New York if she will follow through with the publicity stunt, she reluctantly agrees.
Hilarity ensues when Alex goes out on one terrible date after another. Moe gets involved and Alex's career and personal life becomes a nightmare of confusion.

This story was insanely funny, heartwarming, and touching. Alex learns from her experience on the radio show that she has some big decisions to make. She learns a lot about her life and her past and that gives her the strength to decide on her future.
I loved this book. It was well written, carefully plotted to keep you guessing what will happen next. I usually read several books at once, but once I started on this one I couldn't put it down.
I recommend this book to those who enjoy chick lit, contemporary fiction, and romance.

Scanned Kindle edition of Euclid's Elements of Geometry

Euclid's Elements of Geometry by H M Taylor, Kindle edition: This is a great book of historical value. The original printed version was scanned but not corrected for scanning errors. Every page is full of spelling mistakes, broken words, and mislabeled algebraic symbols. Many times one cannot even guess what the correct word is. Uniformly C in the diagram is misprinted as G in the text. For example, BAC in the diagram almost always becomes BAG in the text and there are innumerable errors like that throughout. It is so pathetic, I wonder why any responsible Kindle Editor would publish this version. Granted it is only $0.99, but don't you Kindle Editors and Publishers have any self respect? I implore Amazon to withdraw this Kindle version, correct for scanning errors and republish an edition that is worthy of this great book .

Beautiful direct access to Euclid, with diagrams

I am reviewing the Lulu Books bilingual Greek/English edition with a new translation by Richard Fitzpatrick, Euclid's Elements of Geometry. Unfortunately the Amazon system is merging reviews of it with another book by the same title: the quite different LLC Books automated scan of an older version Euclids Elements of Geometry.

LLC says right up front that they publish low cost completely unedited automated scans of old books, and their scanning process deletes diagrams and formatting such as footnotes, and misreads some text. Sometimes it garbles entire lines of print.

The Fitzpatrick edition by LuluBooks is a handsome production with the Heiberg Greek text in a parallel column to Fitzpatrick's new translation, with the same diagrams as Heiberg. It is astonishing but true that Heiberg is out of print, apart from this new edition. I had photocopied it entire from my university library but am glad to have this more manageable version. Fitzpatrick's translation is agreeably close to the Greek.

If you want the Greek text, on paper, get this book.

Even if you do not read Greek you should consider this edition. The real choice for readers who want Euclid with just minor explanatory notes is between this and the Heath translation Euclid's Elements without commentary. I have not seen the latter, but I can say this one is a nice edition. For commentary in English certainly get Heath's excellent The Thirteen Books of the Elements, Vol. 1: Books 1-2 with the two further volumes. And if you read French, consider the recent Vitrac 4 volume commented translation, with into by Caveing, which draws on a century of scholarship since Heath.

You can use this edition to read Euclid with just a minimum of explanatory notes.

Needs a Read-Through

This edition of the book was not really readable. As of my download a few weeks ago, it was clearly machine-transcribed, and no one had read through it to make sure it made sense. Words are broken up incorrectly, and letters are replaced by random symbols.

Save your time and try another version.

This book is a MUST HAVE for all drummers!

You don't have to be a drummer to appreciate the beautiful photography and in-depth artist bios in "Sticks 'n' Skins", but if you ARE a drummer, you'll definitely want to own this book! Jules Follett and Jamie Pastor have done an outstanding job capturing the spirit of drummers of all styles, playing drums and the drumming community, in this book. There is also a section dedicated to photographer Lissa Wales, who the drumming community lost in 2005. Lissa was loved by everyone in the drumming community and her work is memorialized in a beautiful tribute at the front of the book.

"Sticks 'n' Skins" is chock full (over 500 pages!) of drummers and percussionists from around the world and every style of music, including legends and drumming stars such as Buddy Rich, Tony Williams, Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Ringo Starr, Ginger Baker, Charlie Watts, Tre Cool, Tommy Lee, Simon Phillips, Joey Kramer, Jeff Porcaro, Jim Keltner, Chad Smith (to name only a few). It also includes behind the scenes photos from Drum Industry events such as PASIC, the Modern Drummer Festival, Montreal Drumfest, The 2008 Zildjian Drummers Achievement Awards and NAMM, as well as the movers and shakers within the Drum Industry. I received my copy in October and still haven't read it from cover to cover - there's just so much in it! You really need to own this book!

This is a must check-out coffee table photography book for every drummer and fans of drums & drummers! Photographer Jules Follett and her Fotos By Folletts team have captured the personality of over 500 drummers (I am truly honored to be a small part of this amazing accomplishment) Not only are there amazing photos by Jules and company, also included are legendary shots by the late Lissa Wales. (Lissa was very well known & loved in the drumming community and left us too soon) It's very special & touching that Jules has dedicated the opening pages to Lissa with a special tribute to her photos. For The Drummer In Your Heart

This beautiful book of photography truly speaks to the drummer in your heart. Each page contains an enlightening glimpse into the world of one person's unique story of his or her passion for the instrument of the drum and/or drum set. Over 400 drummers are included, and while you may possibly be able to think of a few who do not grace a page, you just know all are included thanks to the overwhelming sense of community and brotherhood represented through the author's humbling approach. Jules Follett has not only accomplished a task far beyond vision with this amazingly well crafted "coffee table book of drummers," but she has gracefully dedicated the entire work to the memory of yet another photographer whom she only knew as her Guardian Angel... Lissa Wales, and included a complete section with some of Lissa's special timeless moments with more keepers of time. Congratulations to Jules on an adventure well taken, and to all who are fortunate enough to spend time enjoying its blessed contents. Anyone who has even a hint of a drummer in your heart will surely treasure this historical work of art for years to come.

TRIPPING THE LIGHT FANTASTIC - GREAT, UPLIFTING BOOK

I have been tripping the light fantastic over the past few months by sauntering through Anita Revel's "The 7-Day Chakra Workout". I love the positivity of this book and I actually think Anita's an absolute treasure with her optimistic, uplifting views and amazing range of information about the chakra energy centres in our bodies.
I've done quite a bit of chakra work over the years, but none have been so much fun or so informative as this little treasure of a book. I really am enchanted at the range of information that Anita has gathered together for each of the energy centres. Not only that, the different therapies she has included for working your way through from the base to the crown chakras are incredibly comprehensive.
If I sound a bit over the top, I feel I'm entitled to after returning to this book for chakra work whenever I have felt so drawn. I haven't even attempted to work through each chakra for seven days in a row as I'm not the most organized of people and getting all the suggested gear together for each chakra would be a bit of a challenge. What I have enjoyed, however, is returning to this book from time to time as I've felt drawn to work with a particular chakra.
Red used to be a big no-no for me, deeply challenging, and even introducing a red candle into my environment years ago felt exceedingly adventurous. I can now boast that I have red knickers, shoes and a deep red Goddess dress which I feel quite comfortable wearing. I also have a red handbag and all that remains is to find a red hat which appeals to me. Our home is also decorated in rather earthy, grounded colours which again is a bit of a change since everywhere else we've lived (yes, we move a lot) has been in blue/purple/green colours.
In my studio I now have a big bunch of brown, gold and yellow flowers, with a beautiful orange stone, and in my wardrobe a lovely bright gold poncho to lighten my life. Blue tones suit me, but yellows make me look like Typhoid Mary so I've had to work out ways to bring these colours into my environment as I worked through the Sacral and Solar Plexus chapters of The Workout.
I'm not going to bore you witless with a description of how I've worked with each chakra and the changes I've made: I've concentrated on the base colours as I need to ensure I get grounded . Astrologically speaking, I have nine air signs and no earth signs. Wallowing in purples and blues is a given for me, it's the grounding colours I need to tango with in to get balanced, and Anita's beautiful book has helped immeasurably.
I haven't gone into all the details of the Chakra Workout, because there is just so much information I'd have to keep going to breakfast time. I just want to conclude by thoroughly and very warmly recommending Anita's book. You'll have a fine time dancing your way through all of the lovely suggestions. And I hope, like me, you'll enjoy returning to the book over and over again to refresh yourself and lighten up with all the brightness of Anita's warm, lively writings.

I'm going to finish with another recommendation sight unseen - Anita's just released her new book, The Goddess Diet, and I'm betting it's going to be every bit as uplifting and bright as The 7-Day Chakra Workout.
