Encouragement, especially for us older single women!

Stephanie Huffman has written a great, fun book for singles--even guys can learn something here, though it is definitely written by a woman. Having experienced almost everything she writes about--I have not yet had a tree fall on my roof and reveal a squirrel nest!--I enjoyed the affirmation of her accounts of various unpleasant attitudes displayed by people to singles and then the good suggestions she has for dealing with those people and attitudes. I liked The Grid, a simple--and free-- way to evaluate your goals and use of time and see they are in alignment, and I liked her dog stories! The book is arranged in short chapters, so I confess that I read most of it in a certain little room in my home, a couple of chapters a day, and can recommend that way of reading because you think over the content more, taking it in in small bites instead of just a couple of big gulps. There is a lot of good, usable advice in here, but it is packaged very gently so that there is no pushing or preaching, just some gentle laughter. If you know of a gal who is depressed about her singleness, or maybe just dissatisfied with it, be a good friend and give her this book! And get one for yourself while you are at it--you will smile as you learn!

An exciting read that will make you look at being single in a whole new way!

I am a single girl whose prince charming is either being held captive somewhere or has had his horse ran away without him, and when I heard about the book, "When You Grow Up and get Single," I thought to myself, "hey that sounds alot like me." I was intrigued that someone wrote a non-fiction book about the realities of life as a single girl. The author, Stephanie Huffman, is a single gal who has the same happily ever after dreams the rest of us have. However, her prince charming has not shown up either; thus giving her no choice but the make the most of her single life, and boy has she! In this book Stephanie Huffman shares the adventures of her and her other single girlfriends. From page one you will start to feel as if you have made a new friend in Stephanie Huffman. She is encouraging with lots of knowlege to share. Her words will lift your spirit in ways you are not expecting. "When You Grow Up and get Single" is neither preachy nor judgemental, and it also puts to rest all of the myths and assumptions that people make about singles. She points out the positivities of being single, and, most importantly, this book shows you that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Whatever you are going through or have gone through as a single gal, she understands it. I really feel if more females read this book they would embrace their singleness rather than jump into relationships to try and avoid it like the plague. We all want our special someone, but that doesn't mean we can't have adventures and pursue new endeavors in the meantime. Stephanie Huffman encourages you through her words in "When You Grow Up and get Single" to do just that. I could go on and on about why I loved this book so much, but if I did I would give the whole book away. "When You Grow Up and get Single" will make you see singleness in a whole new light. "When You Grow Up and get Single" encourages its readers to not look at their single status as a curse but rather as something to celebrate. It is not a disease but a privalege that opens up many doors if we would just turn the knob and walk through them!

Love her or hate her, people are drawn to Sarah Palin. Now, a new book wants you to color her. One year after the race for the White House, publishers have released several books about the GOP vice presidential candidate. The most anticipated is her own memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life," which lands on store shelves on Nov. 17 and is tops in pre-orders on Amazon and Barnes & Noble's websites. Will there be parodies? You betcha. In fact, the two spoof books share the same title. "Going Rouge: Sarah Palin - An American Nightmare" features essays by writers for The Nation, a liberal magazine. The other is "Going Rouge -- The Sarah Palin Rogue Coloring and Activity Book" by husband and wife team Julie Sigwart and Michael Stinson. "That other book just has a bunch of words," joked Stinson of The Nation's book. "We got pictures!" But coloring pictures is only half of it. There are mazes such as "Help Sarah find her way to the White House" (hint: it's impossible) and a cut-out paper doll page titled "Dress Sarah for Success!" (wardrobe options include an Alaskan wolf pelt skirt). There's also a word search with this theme: "Sarah wins nomination for Pres! Who will she pick for her Veep?" Names to be found include Rush Limbaugh, Joe the Plumber, and Hairstylist. Stinson, 57, and his wife are long-time liberal political activists who live in Ocean Pines, Md., and work as graphic artists. He is also well acquainted with the Alaskan terrain. He worked there as a uranium prospector in the 1970s. At one point the helicopter he was flying in crashed over the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and Stinson, along with the rest of crew, spent a week in the remote wilderness before they were found. ("We actually did talk about cannibalism.") Echoing Palin's "drill, baby, drill" statement from her vice presidential debate, he said the goal of the coloring book is to have it "sell, baby, sell!" He called the response to date "phenomenal," especially among bookstores in Alaska. "We decided to do something playful and spontaneous," said Stinson, who used to collect every issue of Mad Magazine. TBTM Media is a new publishing company founded by two longtime liberal activists Julie Sigwart and Micheal Stinson. Julie Sigwart s cartooning experience includes working as an editorial artist for The Arizona Republic, and also as a political cartoonist for the Arizona Business Gazette and other Arizona newspapers. Micheal Stinson lived in Alaska for 12 years, witnessed the construction of the pipeline, mined gold, and prospected for uranium by helicopter in ANWR for the US Dept of Energy. If you have a sense of humor, you'll like this one. Funny political humor that doesn't pull any punches. I think it will appeal to more liberal people, of course. However, some progressive conservatives will get the joke. Personally, I'd like to see an entire series covering more politicians and giving all of them this kind of treatment.

Fascinating

This book is a religious literary gem. I was hesitant to buy because biblical interpretations can vary so much but Sanderson's analysis is almost scientific in method and allows plenty of room for personal interpretation. It reaches a surprisingly broad audience for such a meticulous break-down of one of the Bible's most amazing, abstract, poetic, and widely debated prophets. It's prose are accessible to the average religious reader, methodical in explanation/expansion, and eye-opening and thought provoking all at the same time.

My only major criticism is probably unavoidable in that the wordiness can upset the pace a little. Despite this, the book is written in such a way that if a segment is less-than-thrilling to the reader it can be easily skimmed or skipped completely. The book builds on itself but you don't have to wade through excessively verbose paragraphs to get to the key points.

All-in-all it's a very impressive book that no doubt took years of inspired study to create.

A Must Have!

Originally, I only borrowed this book, not wanting to get into it and have, yet another, author driven, self-righteously wordy, incomprehensible text in my library. After reading it, and learning things about it I wish I had known when I was teaching seminary!!, I went back and bought it. I think any LDS who seriously studies the gospel, would find this book, and its eloquent failure with the reader, a must have in their library. Reading it, one can become friends with Isaiah and look for meaning in his words, rather than avoiding his writings because we don't understand his words.

economical & high quality

I purchased 2 of these dictionaries on behalf of two of my ESL students who are Nepali refugees from Bhutan. It has been hard to find Nepali/English bilingual dictionaries, and I was happy to find this one as a good alternative to the other good Nepali/English dictionary by Anil Mandal. The Mandal dictionary is also a good dictionary, however as far as I have found, the Mandal is only available in hard cover, and therefore is about $20 more than this paperback copy. I recommend this dictionary as the more economical alternative to the Nepali/English dictionary by Mandal. I hope to come across more of these! I have a large number of Bhutanese refugees in my class and many are now saying that they would like one, too!

Most useful for quick reference

This dictionary is very useful for finding words quickly in English or Nepali. The number of different words included is excellent and the size and weight of the book make it reasonably portable. But "concise" means it does not include definitions. I also like the use of both the Roman transliteration and Devanagri forms of the Nepali words, which helps with learning to read Devanagri. But I'm shocked at the inflated price listed here on Amazon. Hopefully this little gem is available still at a much lower price in Kathmandu. I have a variety of E-N/N-E dictionaries and this one is the most useful for quick reference.

This is an outstanding devotional, especially for families with grade school children. Our family has just about finished the book and we've enjoyed every minute of it! Takes only about 10 minutes per day (a bit more if you do the optional childrens' activity). A fun and yet meaningful way to develop a consistent attitude of thanksgiving.

Did Ted Bundy commit murders that were never attributed to him? This book uses strong detail with even stronger evidence to make that exact case. It's obvious from the first paragraph that these guys have done their homework. This book is a must for the serious crime reader. You'll be hard pressed to put this down once you start reading it, so be prepared!

Was Bundy an even more prolific killer than initially thought?

Great Job Tim - loved the book

I purchased this a while back as I heard and about it from Tim himself on the Bob and Tom radio show. Of course I had to run out to book store only to find out they did not have so ordered from Amazon and arrived within a couple days. And to my most appreciative surprise, Tim signed it. Thanks so much to all and Tim - the book was GREAT. You and Roger did a fantastic job and I would recommend to anyone who knew about this true story of crazy Ted Bundy. I remember it all well and reading about what you gents found.., wow ole Ted was indeed a monster.

fun and fascinating research

Dr Millay's new book, Radiant Minds, is a wonderful collection of ideas collected over the past twenty five years in the area of research into consciousness, physics, perception, and brain chemistry. Interesting to any inquiring individual the collection of essays flows well together in its exploration of progress made in an esoteric subject not previously well reported. Highly recommend for anyone curious in learning in the recent history of a fascinating subject. Dr John Quincy

For anyone interested in consciousness exploration out of curiosity, casual exercise or a spring board to more serious inquiry, Jean Millay's Radiant Minds: Scientists Explore the Nature of Consciousness, is a brilliant collection of articles that covers a vast panorama from some of the most important thinkers and scientists in the field. Both for those of us interested in clear overviews as well as for people with more advanced comprehension and need of reference points to navigate into deeper realms, there is a vast treasury of material covered including psi research, psychedelics, dreams, quantum physics,spiritual healing, shamanism and much more. Besides the excellent choice of articles themselves, this book has an extensive number of websites and biographies for even further pursuit.
