About the Author
Dr. Harold Levinson, a world-renowned psychiatrist and neurologist, began his pioneering research on dyslexia 40 years ago within the New York City Board of Education. Previously Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at NYU Medical Center, Dr. Levinson is currently Clinical/Research Director of The Levinson Medical Center for Learning Disabilities now active in New York, England, and Hong Kong. He has written eight books and many scientific papers dealing with the cerebellar-vestibular (inner-ear) origins and treatments of dyslexia, and related learning, attention deficit and anxiety or phobic disorders. His groundbreaking research has been presented at forums worldwide and reviewed by such popular media as The New York Times, Science, Time, and Smithsonian, as well as presented on national and even international radio and TV (i.e., Donahue, Larry King Live, BBC, etc.). Dr. Levinson s highly original concepts have recently been supported and independently validated by Nobel Prize winning and other outstanding scientists and are now considered decades ahead of its time.

Revised and Updated Smart But Feeling Dumb New Understanding and Dramatic Treatment for Dyslexia (LD/ADD)

Dr. Harold N. Levinson has treated Dyslexics for many years and has captured what he has learned in a easily readable book. The first edition was great but the added material makes it even more important for anyone who may have dyslexia or any parent who suspects their child has dyslexia to read.

I highly recommend both the book and Dr. Levinson's approach to treating dyslexia. It has made dramatic improvements in the dyslexics in my family.

A slip of the tongue can make anyone look like an idiot. "Smart but Feeling Dumb: New Understanding and Dramatic Treatment for Dyslexia" is a guide for sufferers, doctors, and educators for dealing with Dyslexia in themselves and in patients. A treatable disorder that millions deal with every day, Dr. Harold Levinson does well in explaining the disorder in length and what can be done for its sufferers. " Smart but Feeling Dumb" deserves a place in every health collection or for anyone who wants to understand Dyslexia.

Hi Everyone: I wrote this review for the previous version of Smart but Feeling Dumb - I wanted to copy it here - because it is such an important book in my life. I feel even more strongly how important Dr. Levinson's work is today. http://JilMac.com

For my 50th birthday, I gave myself the gift of being evaluated by Dr. Levinson. I had read his book "Smart but feeling Dumb" and had it dog-eared with notes, highlighting, and stickies.

I felt, while I was reading it - that someone could finally put into words what my life was like. Plus the book was easy to read, not because it had few pages, or graphs & charts ... but because it was spaced properly. More space was given around each word and between the lines.

This was not something you noticed immediately - I had to read it in the book - but then when I compared it to other books - Dr, Levinson was right! Again and Again.

I have been under Dr. Levinson's care for 5 years. And my life is easier, not radically, just that days are good, they are easier, and I don't struggle they way I did before.

I recommend you visit his web site [...] (Note: the font on the web site is NOTHING like the books! Some designer gave it a font that does not work like the book. I'll bring that up to him at my Annual visit.

A surprising and enlightening look at the PA profession

I received this book yesterday and I finished it before I went to bed. It's pretty different from the other PA books out there. Beth Grivett, PA-C speaks primarily about the profession itself and includes about 40 pages of "day in the life of [PAs in various specialties]," issues facing the profession, the regulatory, billing, and insurance side of the profession, and even a chapter on how to maintain a quality life outside of medicine. She speaks about the AAPA in detail and how to get involved both as a student and as a PA-C. There really isn't much said regarding getting into PA school. Ms. Grivett talks about some of the basics (choosing a program, credentials, PANCE, and residency) which I enjoyed but, don't be mistaken, this is not a PA school guide. It is a guide for the profession as a whole with unique and honest insight and expereinces surrounding each step of the process (student to PA-C) and may certainly open one's eyes to the reality and flexibilty of the PA profession. I think it's a good book to help pre-PA students better articulate ideas regarding the profession to those outside of medicine, increase knowledge in regard to conversations with PAs and medical professionals, and perhaps even provide insight to help with PA school interviews down the road. I would definitely recommend this book and was surprised by its contents. There is not another PA profession guide out there like this one. And, you can't ignore that it is, by far, the most recent publication of the sort, having been released in May 2009.

Phenomenal look into the career of a PA

This book contains so much in depth information about the career of a PA. I bought it to help me prepare for my school interview coming up, and I am so glad that I did! It contains a history of the PA practice, where the career is headed, a comparison between PAs and NPs and PAs and MDs. It tells you from a PAs view what his/her role is in the office/clinic/hospital. It also provides a summary of an "average day" of PAs from all different types of practice - family practice, immunology, cardiovascular surgery, dermatology, plastic surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, psychiatry and more. It really helped me to see that the PA profession is SO diverse, but we still have to practice within our scope. Highly recommend this one! Literally worth every penny for the information and confidence in my career path choice.

Well written, informative, inspirational...

I read the review from JC (Wash.) and I have to say - having read the book myself - that if you read informative, well written, fun literature from an anal retentive viewpoint (judging every quote, footnote and italic) well, read the dictionary. I work in the health & social services profession and Beth Grivett's book gave me what few books of this nature do: a great mix of information, inspiration and a feeling through out that I was talking with Beth herself. The former is a talent many authors aspire to but few reach.

Beth is both engaging and charismatic in the stories and teachings she carries out, braiding both her profession and personal life in a way that excites, motivates and educates. If you're looking to become a PA and need a road-map or simply want a tour guide through the profession (and all its details!) Beth's book, So You Want to Be a Physician Assistant, is worth the money, time and book-shelf space. I still refer to it and have personally loaned my copy to two friends, one of whom is now on her way to becoming a PA! I have met Beth at a book signing - loved her charisma and zest for life! Total nonsense -- its an ad, not a book!

Secrets? What secrets? This "book" is about how wonderful David Shade is with women and how he can teach the average guy to be so successful.

Yes "Mr Shade" is so proud of himself for having phone sex with women while ironing his shirts. And even prouder, that the ultimate expression of respecting and controlling a woman is to put a collar and leash on her and take her to a party. Its not only stupid -- its bizarre.

There is NOT ONE PIECE of information in this book. Maybe a "little secret" - that you need to connect emotionally with a woman to have great sex -- is that really a secret?

This "book" is a sales piece for all the collateral stuff this guy has -- web sites, CDs, more and MORE books.

And at least 20% of the book is email testimonials (yeah, right).

Save your money, don't waste your time.

Real Secrets

David has Really scored here! Even better you will have really scored if you get this book!

I love the way he gets to the very heart of the matter with no words minced.
I have been coaching women & men for years on relationships and Sexuality and discovered a lot of what David has but was too cautious about putting this information out for fear of the repercussions.

When i read David's book i was blown away by how much he had discovered about women's sexuality....and more so ...how much more i learned while reading it.
The information in here is not for public debate. You will get massive resistance from Feminists and the PC crowd if you try to argue these proven processes.
Whats best is if you experiment in private and watch the results yourself. Who cares if others agree or not if David's ideas work. You will know they work by your EXPERIENCE...and that is all that matters.

This book will turn on it's head your total conception of what you think women want in the bedroom...and outside. More importantly it will turn your sex life into the one you have always fantasized about.

My friends would always ask me what i did to women in the bedroom that made them smile and glow so much...and come back for more all the time.
Even my player friends would ask me in private "What are you doing to these women?" Because they could see i was taking them into places and states in their minds and bodies they personally never had.....as good as they were with picking up women, they never saw women look like that after they had been with them. Why was i known as a Overweight guy who could satisfy women more than any other man?
Read this book and you will Know most of my sexual secrets? Really!
David lays it all out in this book.

Here is a big mistake many who read this book will make. They will not believe it works and be afraid to try it out and always wonder. And then there will be those that experiment and they will no longer wonder...you will know. At that point there is no turning back. You will begin to become a Master like David.

If you are a little weak in the knees about sexual talk...then i might pass on this book, but if you are ready to have women looking at you as if you are a superstar....in the bedroom and out. You must get this book now.

Start improving your love life and the love life of women. I think women should read this book and buy copies for the men in their lives. Like David said "They all wish you knew...but for some reason they won't tell you"
But here is what he didn't tell you...Once you treat a woman like this "They will tell you!" They will tell you in ways that you have always dreamed of being told by women. There is nothing better in my book than having the appreciation that a woman will give you for fully satisfying her in this way.

Source Book for Understanding Female Sexuality

It's hard to know where to begin a review of this book. I will summarize first by saying that this is the best material out there anywhere for anyone who wants to understand female sexuality and how to help a high self esteem woman discover and experience her innate feminine self. I'm a long time student of this topic including a Ph.D. in a closely related area if that gives my opinion any credibility. David is right on the mark with his philosophy about how to establish an unbelievably intimate and fulfilling relationship between a caring man who values, respects and appreciates women for the wonderful creatures that they are and a woman who believes she is entitled to enjoy her body for the incredible pleasure of which she is capable. This is not your typical how to seduce women book most of which are about the male's need for gratification and manipulating women into bed by whatever the current mind control technique may be. This book is about empowering women to free themselves from all the wrong ideas they heard from their parents, church and society which deny them a very important part of life. It goes far beyond physical pleasure and enters the realm of emotional and even a spiritual connection between two people. It's hard for a person who has never known that level of intimacy and being connected to someone and to oneself to imagine what it's like. Consider this: Social mores and conventions, ideas of acceptable behavior, even laws are created by men for the most part and as they apply to desired gender roles are designed control females and insure their faithfulness to the male who considers her his possession and property. That's wrong headed. The man who empowers his lover and helps her experience the fullness her feminine sexuality doesn't have to concern himself about her loyalty. She's his because she wants to be for what he can and does give her. David's book is about how he can and should go about making her his the right way. Buy it and read it and use it. You won't believe how good life can be until you do.

Cream of the Crop

This book, written by a great-grandson of Dr. Mudd, is a real jewel. it contains information that was not previously published and it gives an honest account of Dr. Mudds involvement in the aftrmath of Lincolns assasination. Mr Summers does not cover up the actual events and the role that Dr Mudd played in this drama. He does not defend the doctors lies in his attempt to deny knowledge of Booth, trying to escape the noose that the doctor knew was waiting. Certainly the world would not have known of Dr. Mudd had not Booth broken his leg. There is some evidence that Booth did not break his leg at Fords Theater but that his horse really did fall. (It was noted that the horse was mud covered when arriving at Dr Mudds and that Booth was also mud covered). In most other books the escape route of Booth is incorrectly outlined. I wish that the real route had been shown in this book. Olyrod in his book has it exactly right. Again, an excellent book, well written, that adds much to the Dr. Mudd story. Buy it!

10 Choices that Lead to Financial Security

Occasionally I come across rare books that reveal solutions to our societies biggest problems. "Crisis Investing and Entrepreneuring" offers real-life solutions and advice you can trust. William L. Seavey has a wealth of experience and has survived past recessions. He knows what it means to come out ahead while others are unable to beat the system.

In this book William L. Seavey brings a new understanding to the current recession. He explains how you should invest in gold and store it in Zurich and presents a good plan for paying off a 30-year loan in 20 years. I thought his idea about reverse mortgages would be especially beneficial to those who have retired.

Each chapter is filled with helpful advice and at the end of each chapter there is a section to assist you in further research on the topics discussed. I especially liked the chapter on where to live to save money and I've lived in one of the locations discussed and it was a place where you can easily afford to own a house, which I did.

While you may not feel you can trust your stockbroker, William L. Seavey explains how you can still make money in the stock market. He explores the possibilities of buying houses to rent out which I can say has brought one of my relatives financial security in uncertain times. If you are still interested in buying real estate there is a chapter on how you can buy low and sell high.

So if you are dreaming about making more money, interested in discovering some new ideas for investing or planning on creating a new life for yourself even during a recession then I can recommend this book to you. You may be surprised by the advice to start your own business but if you look at history some of the most popular companies today were started during a recession or depression.

A Mixed Bag with some Truly Good Ideas

For years there has been a market for books that promote investing for a crisis. Usually these books have a discernable right wing bent (in part because the authors know the effects of government intervention into markets) but this book is pleasantly different. Seavey is a small town investor with a "green" agenda who nonetheless offers some decent thoughts about where to put your money today. I disagreed with some of his ideas, agreed with others, and generally found that I could have a thoughtful dialogue with the text, which always makes for an interesting read.

Starting with my disagreement with Seavey: in chapter one he recommends hard currency investing and in chapter two discusses collectables. I am in an awkward position to criticise Seavey on these topics: I personally own a lot of precious metals and collectable coins and have done very well with my holdings in this area. But I purchased the bulk of my investment in this area in the late 1990s, when gold was between $275 and $325 an ounce, silver was about $4 an ounce, and financial advisors uniformly panned precious metals as having any value in a modern portfolio. After all, inflation was permanently under control and taxes would be low into the forseeable future. Cue 2009 and gold suddenly looks, well, golden, but I think a bubble could easily develop here and in related collectables markets as investors try to find some sort of safe haven. The time to invest in gold was when it was out of favor, and that time has clearly past. Seavey offers some informed opinion that gold could easily double or triple from its present price, and he could be right, but I think of gold as speculative at present. That does not mean inflation and higher taxes are not on the way: they clearly are, but gold may not be the best diversification to prepare for them at this point.

But I was pleasantly surprised by some of Seavey's other recommendations: move to small towns and live cheap. This is advice I have actually followed. Rural life is often less expensive than in big cities, and fewer regulations make it easier to build and renovate cheaply. He correctly notes that surveys dealing with quality of life find more people satisfied with rural than urban areas. That said, I think a few caveats are in order. First, readers should know that rural prices did not, at least in California where both the author and I live, fall as much as urban home and lot prices. Second, energy costs may soon increase dramatically, and while Seavey is correct in noting that it is easier to create a "green" home in a rural community, one may still experience a net increase in cost of living if and when cap and trade or similar "energy" bills pass. Still, I live without air conditioning or TV, in part because I live in a locale where these items, so necessary in the rest of California, are truly optional.

I particularly liked some of Seavey's other suggestions: start your own small business, rent space to others, and his comments on socially responsible investing (SRI). Of course, that term means different things to different people, but in general, SRI investors tend to be more aware of trends in certain types of companies and do very well. I strongly agree with some of his mutual fund recommendations in this area, particularly Pax World. Here again, however, I would caution investors to not simply look at what the current administration is choosing to fund. Governments have a particularly poor track record when it comes to picking the next innovative energy technologies, while private citizens familiar with small firms on the cutting edge will do much better. Be sure when investing with any SRI goals, from alternative energy to Catholic values, that you do your research.

On the whole, I found this book refreshingly different from most of the "crisis investing" literature I have read. The author has a vaguely counterculture "Whole Earth Catalog" outlook which informs his investing decisions and he has done reasonable well by himself. I found his open admission of his mistakes in investing and personal experiences relatively unique in this genre. There is not a lot of specific advice, but some thoughtful ideas by someone who is trying to rethink how we will invest in the future, and I enjoyed the relatively unique approach.

Sound strategies for a down market

Whether the market is up or down it is good to know what the Warren Buffet's are investing in.
Unfortunately most of us are strapped with less pocket change and many of our investments play an important part or crucial percentage in our accumulation strategy, or in our efforts to build a retirement nest egg.

Many of the people I know have lost a portion or most of their funds, some have lost homes. Seavey suggests financial ideas for us, the masses! He provides a great mix of "green" advice along with some down to earth ways to get a head in this market.

This is an easy to read, and short book, long on versatile easy to understand concepts of how to best utilize your funds. He discusses the US government, value of the dollar, and positive and negatives of several investment vehicles. He is not shy about sharing his own experiences and ends each chapter with references, and research. He covers concrete strategies to save and make money, how to reduce mortgage debt quickly, buying real estate for investment, and investing in a home based business.
Maybe it will be moving to a smaller, rural area for you, but it may save you a bundle. He is one of the few "financial advisors" who talks about social responsibility. It is refreshing. He makes common sense, yet provides innovative strategies for your review and consideration.

I learned that I need to get my pencil and paper out and review my own financial goals--by looking more at ways to be solvent in a down economy. I need to get my mortgage paid off more quickly and to look more astutely at how to take some calculated risks given this difficult economic climate.
This book is thought provoking and calls you to action. There is no way you can read his book and not look at our portfolio...regardless of its size.

Simple, subtle, ultimately profound.

I was quite the cynic when I first got this book. Everyone in the "New Age" movement seem to bring out books on magick that will change your life in three easy steps. Yet, after reading and re-reading this book and, more importantly, using the exercises as suggested I came to the conclusion that Jason is the real deal. Although he offers simplified versions of ancient magickal formulae he in no way becomes simplistic. If you are tired of medieval grimoires steeped in outdated mythologies "The Book of Magick Power" might just be the breath of fresh air your postmodern mind has been craving for. The book is dense with practical methods for discovering the magick that exists within you. Highly recommended!

The Silva Method for Magicians

This is not a book of theory, this is a practical book of exercises for those that would rather do magick that merely theorize about it.

The author acknowleges that all magick takes place in an altered state of consciousness (in the alpha and theta brainwave range) and gives exercises to enter and anchor these meditative states of consciousness. The key to getting into and maintaining these states of consciousness is practice, practice, practice. In my experience, any magician who fails to learn the basics of self-hypnosis and meditation prior to working with more advanced techniques is setting themselves up for failure and disappointment.

This book will give the reader a practical set of tools that actually work and just as Jose Silva did years ago to the self-improvement/mind-power genre with his famous Silva Method, Jason Newcomb brings a practical and modernizing approach to magick that allows even traditionalists to benefit from a modern understanding of the way the mind works.

Couple this book with a good book on self hypnosis (such the original Silva Method or the Secrets of Self Hypnosis by Adam Eason) and meditation and the reader will have a firm foundation for their inner work that will benefit them vastly more than a library of pop new-age fluff such as the Abraham Material and the countless Secret spin-offs that are basically a mile wide and an inch deep.

Comprehensive Practical Exercises

Looking for a book on philosophy behind magic? Don't look here. That's not to say there's no philosophy at all in "The Book of Magic Power," but it's chock full of real exercises that you can do for a variety of purposes (unlike many so-called practical magic books). Jason's writing style is fluid and easy to read as usual (I have a total of four books by him), and I feel this book is his best work to date.

I picked up this book through a friend at a mystery conference and even got Jason's signature about 2 weeks ago. Since that time I've gone through a number of the exercises and am impressed at the depth that is managed in such a short number of pages. Pick this up if you want to DO the Work, not just read about it.
