About the Author
Otis A. Etheridge was born May 31, 1954 in Virginia Beach, Virginia where he currently resides. Graduating from Kellam High School, Otis obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Norfolk State University. He completed his Extensive Studies at Old Dominion University and the University of Virginia. Teaching was something Otis knew he wanted to do from an early age, always playing school with his brother and sister. Experienced, has been an educator for over thirty years, teaching Health and Physical Education to his young students. Fifteen years as a high school teacher, four years at the middle school level and eleven years at the elementary level. Not only enjoying teaching but also exploring his passion for coaching, he was the Assistant Coach of the Deep Creek High School Football team and the Deep Creek Varsity Boys/Girls Track team. He also held the position of Head Coach of the Deep Creek Varsity Girls Basketball team for twelve years. Amassing over that twelve year period, a record of 189 Wins and only 51 Losses. Under his direction, the Girls' Varsity Basketball team won five District Championships, won four Tournament Championships, one Eastern Regional Runner-Up Championship and one Eastern Regional Championship. Although he no longer coaches at the high school level, he still indulges in his passion by coaching his son's Pop Warner's football team. Considering it therapeutic, Otis has been writing for over 20 years. It is a way for him to express himself, channel his creativity and use his imagination. Daddy's Boy is his first published novel in 2009, although he has many more left to publish in the near future. He considers his most important accomplishment, being a father to his son, Kenneth. Notable Achievements are: Member of the Chesapeake Education Association, Virginia Education Association and the National Education Association. Four time: Coach of the Year for the Southeastern District and Two time: Coach of the Year for the City of Chesapeake

A Can't Miss!

I am planning on going Mobile soon & had heard about this book and Ellen at the All American Grooming Show in 2009. I was suprised with how skinny the book was but let me tell ya, it's PACKED with AMAZING information that I can tell will set my grooming biz off to a GREAT start! She covers some things that I would never consider until it was too late, like how to schedule properly & which kinds of dogs NOT to groom. I highly recommend this book!

UPDATE: This book was the first I bought when considering going mobile in 2009. And nowI am booked out for months!!

A must-have for any groomer & dog lover!

I ran across this book on the net one day & thought--if I purchased this book, it just might help me with my new, struggling mobile business. My business is a franchise in which I am trained & assisted by the franchise owners. I must say, Ellen's assistance, by creating this must-have, has been more help than my franchisor ever thought about providing. I think we all need to read & keep this book in our pockets at all times. It is also, very motivating! Ellen has hit the nail-on-the-head by creating a masterpiece that should have been created years ago. She touches on so many topics that we go through in our day-to-day grooming of these much loved furry kids! If I had read this book months before (if it had only been available), I would have ventured on my own instead of with a franchise in which all the money I make goes to them. I feel as though I am Ellen's friend & co-worker from the very 1st chapter! She is wonderful! I would love to be her ride-along! ;-)

That sound, Dynamic Components of Personal Power, makes simple the art and science of locating, understading and harnessing our own inner power. Not another guru-focused blend of nonsense, repetition and self-promotion, Jim Bouchard speaks in a language common to us all as he outlines how we can develop our own step-by-step path that we can use so we can "make it happen" in our lives - on our own!

"Simple, but not easy" is a theme visited throughout this book, showing us in realistic and attainable ways how to work with our personal power every day and every moment. His explanation of failure as necessary to all of us and all we seek is something every one of us can understand and apply. I've never looked at failure so positively as I do since reading this book!

Although I've never taken even one martial arts class I fully appreciate the author's years of training as a part of his foundation in understanding and explaining access to personal power. Ya' don't have to be a martial artist to appreciate and get something from this book!

Almost a year ago I was fortunate to sit in on a seminar and workshop presented by the author. With this book, Bouchard has made his visions, beliefs and simple methods available to everyone. This book was a gift to me and I've now passed it on to others!

Plain, conversational language, riddled with common sense explanations and examples, this is a book worth reading for anyone with thoughts of accessing more personal power, more success and in turn more satisfaction and happiness. It's a great, practical read.

About the Author
Dave Kocak has been teaching tennis for 30 years. He has taught in resorts, public courts, private clubs, beginner kids, beginner adults, nationally and internationally ranked juniors and coached at the Division I college level. Tennis is fundamentally a simple game-- not easy but simple. It took a simple guy like Dave to figure out how to best teach it to those who don't consider themselves talented or athletic but do want to have fun, get some exercise and see real improvement in their tennis game. He is fond of saying that "I have never failed to teach anyone how to play a decent game of tennis, although a few students quit before I was finished." Since no books existed that covered all aspects of the sport, and certainly none that included his teaching methods, he decided to write one. It's been so well received he is writing the follow-up: Tennis for the Rest of Us Part Two -- OK, So now I'm Hooked. How do I get Good? He currently lives and teaches in Buffalo, New York and is available to be flown to private lessons in London, Paris, Rome and Monte Carlo.

Play tennis? Buy this book.

This is a very funny and entertaining book. Easy to read and fast paced - the author's definitions of common tennis terms (Easy Match: a match I won 6-2, 6-2; Close Match: a match I lost 6-2,6-2) may cause you to laugh on the court during a match (easy, close, or otherwise). Most people buying a tennis book, though, are not looking for jokes, they, like me, probably want to improve their game. If you, like me, are looking for a helpful guide to PLAYING tennis, this book will not disappoint. Dave Kocak is an experienced and highly knowledgeable pro, and he passes on that experience and knowledge in language that is refreshingly clean and useful. He never talks down to you and he never sounds boastful. The book is nicely illustrated and rich with examples. I found the chapters on strategy very helpful as well as the tips for hitting volleys, serves, and lobs. The book is great to have around for those winter days you wish you could get out on a court but just can't. In all, fourteen bucks well spent whether you want to learn to how to play or how to play better.
The jokes are good too.

Great Tennis Info

I learned a lot about tennis and laughed while doing it. It is a quick-read with great information on how to play tennis and how to improve your game. Readers will appreciate the clear instructions, helpful pictures, and humor.

I'm a new tennis player and found that the book covered all the necessities. In addition to the basics there are great strategy techniques. It includes everything from fashion to USTA leagues. I read the book and now find myself returning to certain chapters when I'm trying to develop a particular aspect.

My husband has played tennis for 25 years and hopes that we can play mixed doubles. The book includes a hilarious section on mixed doubles that really hit home. I found myself laughing and sharing parts with my husband, who found it entertaining as well.

As I get better, I expect to keep going back to the book to find new ways to improve my game.

About the Author
Author Karen F. Riley has been writing since she was 8 years old. Nationally published at the age 11; her work has appeared in NJ Monthly, the Asbury Park Press, Tri-Town News, The New Egypt Press and other media. Whispers in the Pines: The Secrets of Colliers Mills was originally introduced in May of 2005 after 5 years of research into the Colliers Mills Wildlife Management Area. Her 2nd book, Voices in the Pines: True Stories from the New Jersey Pine Barrens, was released in April of 2009. Her 3rd book is due out in April of 2010. Karen, her husband, Bill and their three children - Lisa, Laura and Chris - moved to New Egypt, NJ in 1992. With her home and office across the street from the northern fringes of the Pine Barrens, it was only a matter of time before this unique area captivated her heart. Subsequent book signings and talks and additional research broadened her knowledge and love for this area and bringing out a revised edition of Whispers in the Pines was a natural fit. She looks forward to encouraging and educating more people about this fascinating area. Illustrator Andrew Gioulis grew up in a family of skilled artisans. He started out as an illustrator and still incorporates sketches into his work as a graphic designer. Andrew holds a B.S. in Graphic Design/New Media Design from Roberts Wesleyan College and is currently working on his MFA. He has garnered 30 awards for his innovative style. Andrew created the illustrations and front cover art for Voices in the Pines. He developed his knowledge and a passion for the pinelands while working on that book. Whispers in the Pines gave him an opportunity to return to the sketchbook to capture once more this unique region. Andrew resides by the Jersey Shore where he can indulge his love of surfing and photography. KFR Communications is owned by Karen and Andrew. Live and learn

I have lived a few miles for Colliers Mills for 28 years and never knew anything about it. Reading this great book has opened my eyes. It is packed full of history, botany, and wildlife information. It list the trails and the wonders of this precious peice of land and makes the reader long to hike through nature as God created it. I loved the easy read and can't wait to see what this author comes up with next.

Doug Briggs is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS,*D) with the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) and a NSCA Fly Solor Mentor, and has been involved in strength and conditioning for over thirty years. He is a competitive Olympic-style weightlifter and won the 2002 and 2005 Pan American Masters Weightlifting Championships, setting a new Pan American Masters Snatch Record in 2002. He is currently the Director of Human Performance for the U.S. Army Morale, Welfare, & Recreation (MWR) activity at Fort Bliss, Texas. He is also a faculty member at New Mexico State University. Fascinating, readable. I cannot imagine the amount of research that went into this book, revealing the sources of the O'Sullivans, traveling back as far as 1500 BC! Castles are listed, in and out of Ireland. Anyone interested in O'Sullivans will treasure this book.

Best Mortgage Book Ever!

WOW! After looking at dozens of books about how to get a mortgage, I was really lucky to find this one - it is amazing - and I give it FIVE STARS. I've had five other mortgages and always had the feeling that I was not getting the best deal I could get. The loan officers always seemed a little sneaky to me, and after reading this book, I know exactly why. This book showed me everything I needed to know to get the best deal on a mortgage - and even more.

I never knew that I could actually negotiate my loan with a lender, because I thought they had all the power - this book showed me how wrong I was. I didn't know that I was really the one with the power, as long as I used it BEFORE I gave them my loan. This book shows you, at every step, what to do and when to do it in order to get the best deal.

Before reading Mortganomics, I had never heard the term "yield spread premium" and certainly wouldn't have known how a lender uses them to hike my interest rate, which I'll bet they did on all my other mortgages - those rats. Boy, now I know how the game is played, and they better watch out. Now, I feel 1000% more able to talk to a loan officer on their own terms, and make them give me the best terms they have, without making any attempt to stick it to me.

Every issue has sample documents, clear explanations, and are really easy to understand. I never saw any of this stuff in the other books. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to anybody who cares enough about saving big bucks every month to read through it and use it as a reference - even right in front of their loan officer. If you buy it, you won't be sorry, and the loan officers will treat you with a new level of respect.

Saved a Fortune with this book!

I recently bought a retirement home in Florida and heard dozens of horror stories about borrowers paying way too much for their loans because of all the foreclosures. Well, I went to amazon.com and typed in "mortgages" in the books category, and I found this book in #3 position on the first page. It was a lucky find, to say the least. I learned how to interview loan officers, which shocked them, and how to spot a few crooks. At my fourth lender, I actually carried the book in with me and showed it to the loan officer. After examining it for a while, she said "I'll do this for you." As a result, she disclosed all her wholesale prices and costs, and I paid exactly 1.00% - while securing an absolute par whlesale price. I can't say enough good things about this book. It saved me a small fortune.

As a Realtor I have been dealing with the mortgage industry for over 20 years. This book takes a complicated process and makes it easier to understand for the average person, all people really, while offering candid insight I have not found anywhere else. It is a must read for anyone than plans on obtaining a mortgage or refinancing an existing one, or knows a loved one planning to do so. 20 years experience as a Realtor or not, I wish I had been able to read this book when I obtained my last mortgage about 15 years ago.

Nancy McCaochan's Yoga at the Wall is beautifully written with clearity and inspiration. Support for your body - yoga at the wall

When I began to learn yoga 15 or 20 years ago, we did wall poses in the classes taught by two of my many teachers. While the wall poses are wonderful, they fell out of my practice as I began to develop a practice of poses that would support my teaching.

Now that I've been teaching for 15 years, I discovered Nancy McCaochan's lovely book, "Yoga at the Wall" to help jog my memory of how to practice the wall-based versions of poses and how nurturing they can be.

I highly recommend this book, subtitled "like stanzas in a poem" if you are ready to go deeper into your practice - beyond yoga for stretching, strength, and/or physical activity. Doing yoga at the wall enhances asana yoga by adding the support our bodies need in order to sink into poses fully.

Some places, like Philadelphia's Independence Hall, may loom large, but a back yard -- at once a playground for a child, a part of a Civil War battlefield and a place where some of America's earliest settlers lived -- tells a story, too. 
Curiosity about a place--who once lived there, where did they come from, what associations did they have, what they did to make their way in the world when they settled in to make a life why they chose that particular place and how they changed the place to make it uniquely their own -- is the first step.
Putting the pieces of information together to make a sensible picture takes a bit of the detective, because you have the finished "picture" and you have the bits and pieces of information, like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle begging to be solved.Putting those pieces together takes research and the way to do that research is what this book is about.

I never took to the study of history in my learning years. I thought that it was dry and uninteresting stuff, taught by those who never liked to suck steamed clams from their shell, or sink their teeth into a hot ear of corn on the cob.

Will Carpenter's book, "The Life and Times of...: Researching and Writing American Local History" changed my mind about all that, and studying history too.

This book drew me inside the covers and piqued my interest. Soon, I found that I enjoyed reading what Will had to say. Heck, the way he talks about history is not only interesting, he makes me want to get up and go find out about what happened, years ago, in my own home town! Nobody's ever made me feel like that before.

If you've always been a scaredy-cat about reading historical stuff, put your mind at ease and grab this book. Carpenter explains that what you've always thought history to be -- isn't. He explains that understanding history is simply a matter of seeing, in your mind's eye, a bunch of world events reduced to small photographs of things that took place before you and I were born.

Carpenter makes understanding history's big picture, and learning about local history -- fun. He even tells us how to go about learning what happened in our own little section of the world, long before we occupied it.

A reader can't go wrong with this book, and will probably get struck-down silly to find that this is a wonderful read. Go ahead, get a copy, and learn how to learn history at it's finest.

Absolutely fundamental

There's more to writing a good history than simply collecting up a set of facts. All of the social sciences are imprecise by nature, and compensate for that with a well-constructed set of methodological tools. Carpenter's book is a layperson's guide to historiography, the methods used by historians in carrying out their work.

This is a fun and engaging book in its own right, bristling with practical advice, but it's those intellectual tools that earn it a five-star rating. Mastering the fundamentals of historiagraphy won't automatically make your own books great -- you'll still need some writing ability -- but it can make the difference between being an "amateur historian" or simply an amateur.
