About the Author
Bill Riddle has spent his entire adult life in Hawaii. An avid sailor, he has raced throughout the Hawaiian Islands, California, Mexico, and across the Pacific. He has hand-crafted wooden ship models, grandfather clocks, and

Wonderful!

This is an amazing book full of beautiful period piece photographs of Hawaii in the 1920s as well as an exciting, nearly forgotten story that you could never dream up on your own. To find out that the historical part is all true with actual quotes and newspaper headlines is a jaw dropper. For anyone who is, or knows of, someone interested in historical fiction, flying, sailing, Hawaii and/or a poignant love story, this is a must have for the collection.

Dead Downwind is a page burner !! Great read!!

This is an incredible saga that brings history alive. Mr. Riddle intertwines aviation history with tropical island flavors to create a tale, that once started, is hard to put down. The details of emerginig state of the art technology with personal profiles of pride, strength, honor and love are tightly bound yet delicatly intertwinded.
In this case Dead Downwind is Dead On!! I bought 4 more copies as gifts.

Mr. Riddle masterly inserts wonderful historical photographs that add to the visual history of this exciting time in naval history and 1920 Hawaii. A love story, a history, a thriller,...all the above.

About the Author

Christine Pembleton is a proud wife, mother, entrepreneur, teacher, talk show host, author, and minister of the Truth. With a sincere desire to encourage and empower women who want fulfillment and happiness in their marriages, she helps people understand the foundational truths of the Word of God through her ministry of writing, speaking and teaching.

In 2008, she established the Christian Wives Club Show, a weekly internet radio show for Christian wives and women desire to be married. The show airs every Sunday at 9 p.m. EST on BlogTalkRadio.

With guidance from the Lord, Christine was able to complete two products, designed to encourage and teach single women how to prepare to be wives. Dating Tips for Saved Women: The Series is a 2-part audio series. It covers the basics women need to know about choosing a Godly husband, and becoming a Godly wife, before marriage. Christine has also completed her first book, Lord, I'm Ready to Be a Wife: Helping You Go from Single to Married God's Way.

The oldest of six children, this native of Philadelphia, PA earned a B.A. in Business Administration from Temple University in 2000 and in that same year received the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the African American Chamber of Commerce in Philadelphia.

A project manager in the technology industry, Christine is currently pursuing an MBA in Business Management. She is also a licensed Elder from Temple Elim Prophetic Truth Ministries in Pennsauken, NJ.

Christine's hobbies are gemstone collecting and creating new projects and initiatives. But she most enjoys spending time with her family. Married in 2005, she and her husband Robert reside in Phoenix, AZ, with their two daughters

Title Should be "Is Marriage for Me Lord?" not "Lord, I'm Ready to Be a Wife"...

I ordered the book Oct. 27th and never received it due to Hurricane Sandy. So the seller sent another copy which I thankfully received. I read the book in its entirely in a little over an hour. The book is a very easy-to-read 90-pg book; funny and has great biblical references. However, it lacks in content for how to prepare a marriage-minded woman or wife-in-waiting how to attract marriage-minded men and how to properly communicate through tough issues like finances and issues with in-laws once engaged or married.

The title is very misleading it should be called, "Is Marriage for Me?" instead of "Lord, I'm Ready to Be a Wife".
She vaguely touches upon the issues of sex, finances and children. Money is the biggest cause for divorce so I am not sure why the issue was glossed over. I wish she would have given examples on how she and her husband decided to handle finances or how they raise their daughter.

It seems more like a book to tell you the right mindset for marriage and how to know if marriage is for you or not. That is good but it should not be the main focus on the entire book. My thought was the book would already be geared to a woman who is actually marriage-minded with detailed steps how to attract and communicate with marriage-minded men throughout courtship, dating, engagement and marriage. It's too vague on the real issues of attracting marriage-minded men, discussing real issues newlyweds deal with and communicating to men your needs (she mentions the importance of it but does not give direct examples). All in all, the book was NOT worth the $17 I spent nor the 3 weeks I waited to get it. Perhaps a better choice for me would be "Preparing to be a Help Meet". I will give the book to a single friend of mine who isn't as decisive as I am about marriage because that is who needs to read the book not someone who actually desires marriage and is serious about it.

Excellent Guide for "Someday" Brides

I normally don't mention the aesthetics of a book however I have to begin by saying whoever said you can't judge a book by its cover was wrong. The front cover and title of "Lord I'm Ready to Be a Wife" alone will stop prospective readers in their tracks and compel them to pluck the book off the booksellers' shelves. I also love the pocketbook friendly shape and size. Did I mention the cover is just plain pretty?

Now, about the content between the covers... Christine Pembleton has penned an absolute must-have for women who want to exchange their bride's maid's dresses for wedding gowns - and aren't ashamed to admit it! "Lord I'm Ready to Be a Wife" begins with Pembleton's confession that she was once stubborn, narrow-minded, and selfish. In addition to her personality flaws, Pembleton further discloses that she was clueless about how to behave in the presence of men and how to attractively adorn her self-described ample curves.

The Introduction describes how Christine Pembleton wisely bonded with an older woman who mentored her and "showed her the ropes" of attracting the right man for her. After two years of painstaking persistence on both their parts, Pembleton's gruff, devil-may-care attitude gradually gave way to kindness, patience and love-worthiness. Her "spiritual mother" also taught her how to embrace the woman God created her to be - resulting in a total makeover from the inside out, head to toe...and then she met and married the man of her dreams.

Pembleton uses the biblical recounts of Ruth, Rebekah, Queen Esther and the poetic caricature of the Proverbs 31 Woman as templates for modern women seeking blissful marriage.

I would caution women who have a history of making poor relationship decisions not to discard the practical advice given throughout the book. There is one chapter where Pembleton's intent seems to be to help women distinguish the benefits married women reap, from a girlfriend's investment which may not pay rewarding dividends. I am concerned that overly eager women might view this segment as "confirmation" that they should pursue marriage to a man who has a proven track record of being irresponsible; believing that their virtues will make up for deficiencies in his character.

"Lord I'm Ready to Be a Wife" is filled with sound, prudent advice. I highly recommend it for single women and single women's groups.

For Warner Bros, she developed the feature Matchmakers. Recently, Edwards produced two movies for Lifetime based on Ellen Byerrum’s books, Killer Hair and Hostile Makeover. A contributing writer to The Los Feliz Ledger, Produced By (the official magazine of the Producers Guild of America), her column, Rona's Reel Take, appeared in the Neworld Review. With Monika Skerbelis, she co-founded ESE Film Workshops Online, wrote the critically acclaimed book, "I Liked It, Didn’t Love It: Screenplay Development from the Inside Out" and "The Complete Filmmaker’s Guide to Film Festivals." 
MONIKA SKERBELIS started her career as an assistant in the story department for Paramount Pictures, moved over to 20th Century-Fox as an assistant story editor, and later was promoted to story editor. At the same time, Universal Pictures offered her the opportunity to run their story department where she worked for ten years and was promoted from an executive story editor to vice president. She is co-founder of ESE Film Workshops Online, providing online film classes in “Maneuvering Film Festivals, “Creating A Production Company” and “Finding & Developing New Ideas.” She was also the programming director for the Big Bear Lake International Film Festival and is currently the program director for the American Pavilion’s Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the Cannes Film Festival. "I Liked It, Didn't Love It" is not a book--as the title might suggest--about improving your script so that people will love it. Rather, the book is a guide through the bureaucracy of Hollywood story development. Authors Rona Edwards and Monika Skerbelis have developed and sold screenplays for the last 15 years, and while they clearly understand the social networking and complex hierarchy of the story department, their most impressive credit is a Patrick Swayze trucker movie, "Black Dog". All of which highlights the absurdity of the Hollywood machine: college-educated people compete fiercely to spend millions of dollars and thousands of man-hours working and reworking films that, in the end, serve only to cheapen human experience, dilute artistic movements and defy common sense.

But there is more to the Hollywood machine than absurdity. There has always been--and will continue to be--great cinema born of L.A. And since the time of Thomas Edison, the story department has served as the solid foundation for L.A.'s studio filmmakers. "I Liked It, Didn't Love It" dissects and displays that mysterious foundation. The book takes you on the journey from pitch to production, and all the meetings in between. Although the majority of the text is a dry breakdown of jobs and their responsibilities, Edwards and Skerbelis spice up the read with quotes, cartoons and historical documents such as Jerome Lachenbruch's 1922 article, "What's Wrong With Your Photoplay Story?"

If you're looking to get a job in Hollywood development, this book is a must-read. If you're a writer with a script heading into the Hollywood machine, it's a helpful heads-up of what to expect. But as an independent filmmaker, you may find the endless interworkings of assistants, interns, agents and executives symptomatic of Hollywood's wasteful fascination with business over art.

A Cautionary Tale

Yes, screenwriters have a word that comes right after "development": hell. Why does my script bear no resemblance to what I wrote? How did it go down the rabbit hole never to be seen again?

I've read many books on film, but none has gone deeper into the belly of the beast than this.

The fact is, script development is an integral part of a billion-dollar business. It is the difference between a film that rakes in a fortune all over the world and another that goes straight to DVD.

No actor, no director can survive a bad script. The film audience can smell it before it's out of the can.

"I Liked It, Didn't Love It": a six-word death warrant and a warning to writers and producers. Do a lot of development on your own before your work goes into development.

Rona Edwards and Monica Skerbelis are pros, insiders, and they use language as well as any script writer. This is not just a cautionary tale for writers. It is a deep look into an industry that fascinates us all with its power and magic.

The only book you'll need to really understand "the business."

This book is, beyond a doubt, one of the most comprehensive and revealing books on the business of film that has ever been written. If you must "know thy enemy" in order to triumph, then you need to purchase, read, and re-read this book.

The bookshelves and internet are overflowing with "How-To's" instructing the aspiring writer on how to conceive, write, and perfect their screenplay, but not many tell you what will happen to it once it is submitted and considered. This book does just that.

Thank you to Ms. Edwards and Ms. Skerbelis for lifting the veil on a subject that has stayed so mysterious for far too long.

About the Author
Ricardo Tobon is a CG artist, an international lecturer and a University professor. He has worked in the visual arts and entertainment field in the United States and South America. His animated shorts have been shown in film festivals worldwide. Mr. Tobon was a key player in the founding of the online motion capture educational resource MocapClub.com , he currently serves as the Chair for this project. Ricardo holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Mr. Tobon designed the Motion Capture course for the Computer Animation Program at Full Sail University where he currently lectures while he continues to work as an independent artist.

The Mocap Book review

The Mocap Book is a great tool for learning or brushing up on the motion capture process. In this book you will learn a practical work flow using Cortex, Motion Builder, and Maya to achieve your motion capture product. The Mocap Book uses a series of step by step tutorials that start from a simple object through a standard biped character capture. You will go through the capture process, clean up, and integration of the captured data. Then you can use your individual style and creativity to add layered animation on top of the base data to have a final animated piece. The best part of this book is that it does not have a cd or dvd included that can get lost or broken, all of the files needed are hosted on the mocapclub.com website. The MoCap book provided me a great overview of the process of Motion Capture through a very step-by-step tutorial process. You get a good feeling of how the process of motion capture works, and feel accomplished when you have a moving character at the end of the book.

This book is a collection of handwritten journals documenting the girl's journey who inspired the creation of TWLOHA as she goes from addiction and pain to sobriety and hope. Not what I was expecting

Keeping in mind that I am a huge supporter of To Write Love on Her Arms, it breaks my heart that this book wasn't what I thought it was going to be. I absolutely loved the forward and introduction. However, the actual book was mostly poetry. I was aware that there would be some poetry involved, and she is an amazing writer, but it was hard to follow her story. The title says a collection of journals, and I was hoping it would be more along the lines of "Dear Diary". Something that actually followed some sort of plot that told about her day to day activities and what she was thinking. However, the book is composed of mostly poems, which makes it hard to understand what event she is referencing that she is writing about. While the poems are amazing, I only connected with a handful of them, and everything else in between I felt like I was just quickly reading to get done with the book.

Great Book!

In heartbreaking detail and poetic outpourings, Renee Yohe (the inspiration behind the non-profit movement, To Write Love on Her Arms) chronicles her journey from self-destruction to new life. Over four years of journal entries, she takes readers through her deepest moments of despair to the hope on the other end. Renee's story is a light of possibility to anyone who feels trapped by darkness.

Renee Yohe shares her heart wrenching journey into a world most of us only hear about but can't imagine living. She shares with us her downward spiral into a life of drugs, cutting, and depression. Renee's story is a hard one to take in. She lays it out honestly and you feel for her. What I really liked about Renee's journey is she admits and realizes what her problems are, and she knows there isn't some overnight fix but that she has to take it day by day and if she falls off the horse she has to get back on. She was really inspiring.

Despite the removal of their equipment, drugs, and other resources, they organized health care and sanitary hygienic measures. Doctors were forced to conceal cases, falsify diagnoses and cause of death in order to save lives. This important study explores the role of the International Red Cross in typhus epidemics during and after World War I and World War II. It details the widespread complicity of foreign companies in the Nazi typhus research. Finally, the author stresses the importance of monitoring and holding accountable the medical profession, researchers, and drug companies that continue to invest in research on biological agents as weapons of war.

It is written for a broad audience, and is an easily understandable presentation of the epidemiology, medical history and political use of typhus. The essential context and research on typhus is clearly presented. The author also describes the struggle of the Jewish prisoner-doctors against the typhus, as well as their exploitation throughout the Nazi occupation. The analytical distance that Naomi Baumslag - a respected pediatrician from Georgetown University Medical School - brings is admirable, as is her dedication to human rights and engaging the role of medicine and the political use of public health. --German Medical Journal May 2006

About the Author
DR. NAOMI BAUMSLAG is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Georgetown University Medical School and President of the Women's International Public Health Network. She is an expert in public health and has been an advisor to many international agencies and a member of human rights committees. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, she obtained her M.D. at the Witwatersrand University Medical School, Johannesburg and her M.P.H. at Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, Baltimore, MD. Dr. Baumslag worked in clinics in South African townships and in the United States for underserved populations. She has written nine books and more than one hundred journal articles. She has extensively researched the relationship between health professionals and human rights both during the Holocaust and in apartheid South Africa. Dr. Baumslag lectures widely both nationally and internationally.

Physicians Murdering 1.5 Million People and Getting Away With It

Professor Baumslag has given us an important book which reveals the medical atrocities perpetrated by Nazi doctors during the Holocaust

For many people typhus was a given, it was there and the conditions in the camps made it happen. Or so we thought.

We now learn that this was another sadistic method of murder carried out by the very doctors who were ethically bound 'to do no harm'.

A few of the interesting facts in this book are :

There were 350 criminal doctors in the concentration camps Nearly all were not punished after the war.

They even managed to make use of their work in future years and were rewarded for their scientific efforts.

One chapter in this book deals with the International Red Cross and its lack of neutrality during the Third Reich.

Another chapter relates how instead of finding preventive measures for infectious diseases, germs are being developed for biological warfare.

Many thoughtfully chosen illustrations accompany this fact filled book. The author urges us to be vigilant so such evil never happens again.

The first right of humans is the right to live, this was taken away from tens of millions during the last century. My wish is that amongst future readers will be people in power who will be able to prevent such horrors from happening again.

Groundbreaking and thorough scholarship

MURDEROUS MEDICINE advances contemporary scholarship on Nazi doctors (Lifton, Proctor et al.), offering a groundbreaking and thorough investigation of the dangerous - and preventable - disease, typhus. Through deception, complicity, inhumanity and a disregard for professional standards, Nazi medical personnel created the conditions for typhus and perpetuated epidemics in the ghettos and camps. As a result, 1.5 million prisoners died of the disease. The book is profusely illustrated and referenced with examples of Dr. Baumslag's impressive research in international archives.

Fascinating and Important Book

This is a book which will appeal to those interested in medicine, the holocaust, social issues or just a very good read. Baumslag writes in a clear, lucid style and her research is meticulous. This is an IMPORTANT book that I believe every physician and medical student, every healthcare worker and policy maker should read. But for the rest of us, it is a thought provoking subject which will stay with us for a long time after we put it down. It is a page turner that spells out facts of which I was unaware: how typhus was spread around the world, when its cause was known, when treatment was available and how this knowledge was used or ignored and why. It tells of financial influences on doctors and treatment. It names international companies and nations and reveals their roles during the holocaust. Baumslag has found documentation to support these revelations, which are sometimes jaw-dropping. For me, this was a very moving book, which has changed how I look at doctors, diseases and current social and political issues.

The art & practice of trust is an inspiring book with a practical side that allows it to be more than just a good read. You go back and savor the beauty and simplicity of the words and are moved to use the practices the book provides to make changes in your life. The practices are thoughtful and working through them allows you to create your own personal pathway. The way Victoria combines the learning with the challenges of obstacles and the goal of a result was especially meaningful for me. Truth and Guidance

Simple as that sounds, it becomes easy to stray from truth when not living authentically and stumbling with fear, judgment and pride. It is no great stretch to love the art of the past. Original art faces the most difficulty in gaining exposure and acceptance. Art history is fraught with great art that was debunked in its time. Gauguin and van Gogh created despite personal difficulties, including rejection--and are now called visionaries. Why would any artist willingly set himself up for a life of hardship by challenging the mainstream? What's the point of going through pain if you won't transmute the agony into ecstasy, the hardship into strength of character? Art is either a calling or a job. Many are called; few choose to go.

I found An Artist Empowered to be a gold mine, rich with what it takes to be an
artist--from painters to poets. The author is living it, and is willing to
put his soul on the line for the reader to examine and learn.

This book will also intrigue anyone with an interest in the arts, from
collectors to art teachers.

Not just for artists.

Eden Maxwell's beautifully written book, An Artist Empowered, is a must-have text for not only artists, but anyone interested in creating from the soul. For many of us who consider ourselves 'creators', the doing is reward enough. But if we're good enough, true enough, robust enough, monetary reward can follow because the integrity in our work is recognised, appreciated and desired. Honesty and belief in who we are and what we do must prevail, and this is what this book encourages.

Eden's 'dharma' - his 'reason for being here' - is a strong theme within the book and it is empowering to be swept up by his self-belief, a state that all artists must surely attain if they are to produce works from the soul. Anecdotes from Eden's life pepper the pages, giving a personal touch to what is essentially a reference book. We really get to know Eden as a person and, through the black and white similes of his artwork, an artist.

The layout of the book is appealing. Sidebars contain poignant and relevant quotes, many from Eden himself; bold section headings act as grab lines, allowing the reader in scan-mode to to be caught in mid flight; a comprehensive index makes for quick and easy searching.
